As for Goku, I'll let TFS take it from here: Hard to be a parent if you act like a child.

Chrome	Goku's a bad parent, and while Chi-Chi can be strict at times, she's a better parent than Goku will ever be. Also, in her defense, Chi-Chi has to play the role of both mother and father most of the time whenever Goku is busy being dead, training, or hanging out with little boys.

Google crome Favourite Manga Dragon Ball	Goku's a bad parent but hes not as bad as people make him out to be. Chi Chi is too controlling with Gohan but I don't really blame her. Probably scared he'd turn out like Goku. However Chi Chi as a wife strikes me as odd. She pretty much tricked Goku into marrying her. And after the fight with the saiyans, before Goku has made any real errors as a father, she completely ignores Goku. Her husband dead for a year and she doesn't even look at him. Overall that family is far from ideal, but it works i guess.
